To bypass the incessant traffic jams, be a local and travel through the congestion on a scooter.
Scooter Heaven 		Part of the remains of the old wall that surrounded old Chiang Mai City with the moat in the foreground. The yellow flags are to commemorate the 60 th anniversary of the King on the throne, the other ones are the Thai national flag.

Set in the Forest Wat (mostly of teak trees with their huge leaves), the temple is built into caves that have been tunneled by hand. The main statue is what greets you (about 20 metres into the main tunnel).
Wat U Mong 		You walk in a little way within tunnels which then lead off in a couple of different directions. Each corner or half way in a tunnel were enclaves with shines to Buddha, or there may be a collection of them.
